Suntory Hall

With Suntory Hall being where I will perform on Sunday, June 28, 2026, I thought it important to find out as much about the space as I could. There is a fascinating history associated with it, and I am very happy to share some information about it with all of you.

First, I think it is very important to point out that when Suntory Hall opened on October 12, 1986, in the Akasaka district of Tokyo, it was Tokyo’s first concert hall specifically for classical music.  The creation of a hall with the right acoustics and ambience had been the dream for a very long time of musicians and classical music lovers alike, but also of Keizo Saji, the president of Suntory Ltd.

In order to ensure that the hall would have all of the necessary refinements needed, Mr. Saji consulted with world renown conductor Herbert von Karajan.

The plaza directly outside the hall is named the Herbert von Karajan Plaza to commemorate the maestro's invaluable contributions to the venue's design and legacy.

It will be my very great honor to perform there.
