Mozart, Piano Sonata No. 13 in B-flat major, K. 333 (315c), ii. Andante cantabile

PIANO SONATA NO. 13, MOZART, 0712-2025, ii. (Andante cantabile)

For me this movement has to really reflect something not just pianistic, but also vocal, as the word cantabile implies.  When I am playing it I imagine a singer performing the basic melody of the right hand, with the left hand being a type of accompaniment.

I am also interested in making the dissonances Mozart wrote into the work stand out, just because they provide such an interesting contrast.  There is, again, such delicacy written into each note that I very much want each of them to sparkle.

One gets a sense of Mozart having thought out the movement in such a way that the ear travels from one splendid oasis of sound to the next, where everything is calm, peaceful, and almost religious in nature, a simultaneous contrast yet continuation of the first movement.

When listening to this second movement, what does it make you think of?  Please let me know in the Comments section.

Thanks so much.
