Katsuya Ooe, Designer
Katsuya Ooe with his mentor, Dame Vivienne Westwood (1941—2022).
I continue to be amazed by the talents of Katsuya Ooe, the designer making my gowns for Carnegie Hall and Suntory Hall. He has had a very interesting life, and his training and expertise come through in his designs.
Mr. Ooe spent his childhood in Italy and graduated from Istituto Marangoni, the celebrated private school of fashion and design based in Milan, with branches in Florence, London, Paris, Shanghai, Shenzhen, China, as well as Mumbai and Miami, Florida. He grew up in Milan.
He gained experience as a designer for the Paris and Milan collections of Dame Vivienne Westwood, perhaps most famously known for her wedding gown for Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw in the film Sex and the City.
Not only is Mr. Ooe designing my gowns, he has created special fabrics that have been woven and dyed specifically for each of them. In upcoming posts I will be describing the process by which the fabrics were created, as well as how the patterns were made.
Once again I must say how honored I am to have such a wonderful designer and fashion house making gowns for two of the most important concerts of my career to date.
