Grocery Day and Maywood Market
From left to right: Standing by some of the wonderful produce at Maywood Market; a look at all of the things I bought today; hearts of palm, one of my favorites, from Mr. Cosmo; Tamino turning one of the shopping bags into a toy; a smoothie from Juice Generation.
This morning Mr. Cosmo kindly took me to the market in Maywood.
As I enjoyed the view from the car—the beautiful blue sky and the sparkling waters of the Hudson River—I noticed that cherry blossoms were in full bloom everywhere! Magnolias, forsythias, and daffodils were also blooming profusely; it was truly beautiful, and I could really feel the magnificent arrival of spring. I was especially delighted to see the cherry blossoms, as they hadn't quite reached full bloom in Tokyo yet when I left. In Japan, there is a superstition regarding cherry blossoms: if you catch a falling petal, good luck will come your way. I take this very seriously—every year, I jump and run around with intense focus, trying to catch one! Since I already managed to catch one back in Tokyo, I am believing that my performance at Carnegie Hall will be a huge success!
Regarding our trip to Maywood, I was able to pick up some fresh foods: oranges, lemons, blueberries, blackberries, sun-dried tomatoes, and hibiscus tea. I also discovered something I’d never seen in Japan before: poblano peppers! And—would you believe it?—I even found avocados that were larger than some grapefruits!
Mr. Cosmo also very kindly gave me hearts of palm—one of my absolute favorite foods—and I decided to add them to the salad for my dinner tonight. Afterward, I returned to Mr. Cosmo’s apartment, ate a light lunch, and practiced on his beautiful Steinway.
Bidding farewell to Tamino—who was amusing himself inside a shopping bag—I set off for home.
On my way back, I stopped by Juice Generation—my favorite juice shop—and enjoyed a smoothie called the "O.P.P." made with oat milk, strawberries, and chocolate plant-based protein. It was absolutely delicious.
I'll practice for a few more hours, then have dinner, read Shakespeare's The Tempest, one of my favorite plays that I've read many times, and then go to sleep after giving thanks for this fulfilling day, and affirming the great success of the concert.
