THE LIGHTBULB SERIES

LET IT SHINE!

I’ve been writing a great deal about Fanny Mendelssohn in recent days, and I’m sure there will be other posts about her in the future.  I ask you to please read my most recent posts on her before reading this. That way what I have written here will make much more sense.

The Lightbulb Moment this week is this:

We’re all born with some kind of gift.  A talent that can inspire, delight, and leave the world a better place than we found it.  That talent is like a light.  What does a light do? It chases away darkness. It clarifies. It illuminates.  It shines.

Once you’ve discovered what your light is, treat it the same way you would the flame from a candle. Protect it.  Nourish it. Keep it burning even when the winds and breezes of life seem to want to blow it out like a candle on a birthday cake.

Make sure that nothing keeps that light from shining.  If your gift is singing, study and learn how to make your voice as beautiful as it can be.  If it’s painting, learn how to become so skillful with a brush that looking at one of your canvases is the same thing as peering into your soul.

And if you’re like me and it’s the piano, learn how to play as if the only way you will ever be able communicate is through your fingers.
