My Week in New York—Day One
From left to right: An exterior photo of Salumeria Rosi. Many people like to eat outdoors there, but it was a bit too cold for me on the day I arrived; the counter, where one can buy fresh food to take out; the cozy and elegant seating area; a photo of one of the many wonderful dishes on the menu, grilled artichokes.
Whenever I am in New York time seems to fly by, and this trip was certainly no exception. My mother and I arrived in the afternoon, and I was very much aware of all that I would have to do: getting rested after the long plane ride, practicing, and putting together all of my thoughts for the next few days in order to prepare properly for the recital.
Soon after I arrived I met Mr. Alexander and Mr. Cosmo for lunch at a wonderful restaurant, Salumeria Rosi. It is like an Italian tapas restaurant, where they serve really good Italian food in smaller portions so that you can taste different kinds of things. It was truly wonderful.
At the restaurant I was able to sample different kinds of cheeses, and while I must confess I have not yet developed a great interest in either cheese or wine, I enjoyed learning how to pair cheese with things like onion jam, seasonal fruits, nuts, and honey. It's fun, like coordinating an outfit.
To me, cheese reminds me of chromatic scales and dissonances that feel a little unsettling or sentimental. Even though the smell is a little unpleasant, I find it somehow appealing. If you had to choose music to go with your cheese, what would you select?
Halloween is just around the corner, and with Halloween, candy is important for children. Even for me, who hasn't yet entered the world of wine and cheese, candy is also important. So this time, I brought some Japanese sweets as souvenirs for Mr. Cosmo's students. They include gummy candies shaped like Pokémon, chocolate cookies shaped like koalas, and Super Mario chocolates. I want his other students to practice piano hard with these special treats.
The next day was full of work and practice.
