My Recent Marugame City Recital

From left to right: An introduction to the Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art by some of its  younger patrons, who wrote and translated the script; a 30th Anniversary MIMOCA archive video; a guide to the  famous Naoshima International Arts Island in the Kagawa Prefecture; a pumpkin sculpture by Yayoi Kusama.

My recital this past Sunday took place in Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture, which is along the  inland sea, about an hour west of Tokyo by plane. My grandparents and mother are from there.

Among the many things for which the prefecture is known is the Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma  Museum of Contemporary Art, built in 1991. Genichirō Inokuma (猪熊弦一郎) was a famous painter known to be a disciple of Matisse, and was raised in Marugame City.

Kagawa prefecture is also home to the Takamatsu International Piano Competition. The Kagawa Prefecture itself is perhaps best known for the Naoshima Art Island

Another famous artist, the sculptor Yayoi Kusama, also has one of her works, a large polka dot  pumpkin, on display there.

As you can see, there is a great deal happening both in and nearby this city, which is why it was an  even greater honor for me to perform at the wonderful museum.

I will be writing more about this experience and my concert in future posts.

Please visit my blog again soon! Thanks so much!
