A Comedy of Errors and Some Life Lessons (May 7, 2025)

If I had to give today a title it would be “A Comedy of Errors” like the play by William Shakespeare. Here are just a few of the things that went wrong in the short space of a few hours:

1.    I was eating lunch today, a wonderful tagliatelle with tomato sauce.  While trying to put grated cheese on it I spilled the cheese and it went flying into the air!
2.   At the bus stop I saw a man whom I thought was also waiting for the bus, so I motioned for him to get on before me, out of politeness. I soon realized however he was not waiting for the bus.
3.   After I realized my mistake I hurried to get on the bus and in the process struck my head on one of the bus mirrors.
4.   Once I finally arrived at Mr. Cosmo’s for my daily practice session I managed to step on one of Tamino’s toys and lost my balance.

I was telling all of this to Mr. Cosmo, who made me realize we all have days like this, and while we often want to punish ourselves as if we have done something wrong, there is a very different and much better way of looking at these kinds of situations.  Rather than feeling as if in these situations I have done something for which I am being punished, I learned that I have to look at the good in every situation.

The pasta, for example, was really great, whether I spilled the cheese or not.  I was simply trying to help a man that did not need my help. By slowing down the next time I get on a bus I will be better able to watch where I am going.  Finally, by being more focused on what I am doing, I won’t have to worry about stumbling over things.

Mr. Cosmo is right.  Even the strange, odd, and quirky things about life can provide us with many positive lessons.

I have therefore changed the way I think about things in order to focus more on the positive, which is a real life lesson.

1.    My performance is in two days, and I am very excited.
2.   Faust Harrison Pianos, the venue where I will be having the concert is beautiful, and I will be playing on a wonderful instrument.
3.   Many of the people I know and love will be in the audience.
4.   I have great energy and support from Mr. Cosmo and Mr. Alexander.
5.   My mother and father work very hard to see to it I am well taken care of and protected each day.

There are so many positive things in my life on which I can focus that I don’t need to worry when things don’t go well.  It’s like Mr. Alexander says: You never get more of what you want until you are grateful for what you have.”
